Our Junior Section

Wilton Golf Club’s Junior Section provides a welcoming and supportive environment for young golfers of all abilities. With a strong focus on development, enjoyment, and inclusion, junior members benefit from structured coaching, regular competitions, and full access to the club’s course and facilities.

Supported by PGA Professional James Kraus, the Junior Section offers a clear pathway for progression, helping players build confidence, improve their skills, and develop a lifelong passion for the game. Junior members can take part in a full programme of competitions throughout the summer season, including weekly events, 12 trophy competitions, and additional qualifying competitions. As players progress, there is also the opportunity to compete in adult competitions once a handicap of 18 or below is achieved.

Wilton has a proud tradition of junior development, with many former juniors progressing to become some of the club’s strongest players. Several have gone on to win major honours, including two players who secured the Club Championship while still junior members - a reflection of the quality of coaching and opportunities available.

A Note from the Junior Captain:

Our junior section may be small, but it has grown steadily over the years, and we hope to continue that trend. We run regular internal competitions, and it is fantastic to see new juniors taking part each year.

Our PGA professional, James Kraus, and I work hard to ensure all junior golfers feel welcome and supported when playing at Wilton.

I started my own golfing journey here on Sunday mornings with James, and with the support of the club, I progressed to representing Yorkshire Under-16s and playing for the Teesside Union. Watching juniors improve and gain confidence is incredibly rewarding, and James is always eager to guide and encourage players on their own journeys.

I also enjoy helping new juniors get familiar with the course, showing them around, and playing rounds with anyone - no matter their experience or skill level.

We hope all junior members enjoy their golf at Wilton and feel part of our friendly, welcoming club.

Sam Matthews, Junior Captain
